I just discovered Dusty Springfield. Thanks to 30 Rock. Jane Krakowski did an imitation of her and sang this song. I didn’t realize she was playing a real person until I saw a comment on a blog. This made me do my research on her, and I just bought this song on iTunes. What an amazing voice, and sad we lost her to cancer.
Without my favorite show 30 Rock I might not have ever discovered her, so thank you 30 Rock!
This is one of my all time favorite MAD TV sketches, and it always makes me laugh.
Starring: Nelson Ascencio, Mo Collins, & Alex Borstein from Season 6, Episode 2.
Nelson had a very short time on the show. He was a featured player in Season 5, and was promoted to a main cast member in season 6. However he was either let go or left the show after season 6.
Alex & Mo had a much more successful run on the show, and had many recurring character. Alex had Ms. Swan, Shaunda, & Mrs. Brightling, and Mo had Lorraine, Doreen, & Trina just to name a few for each.
Alexstarted off as a featured player in Season 3 and was promoted in episode 10 to a main cast member. She stayed on the show through mid-season 7. (She was still listed as a cast member through all of season 7 and her pre-recorded sketches were spread throughout the season.) She also returned for special guest appearances in seasons 9, 10, & 14.
Mo was hired as a main cast member at the start of season 4 and was around through early season 9. (Like Alex, she recorded many sketches that were spread out throughout the season even though she had left earlier.) She also returned for special guest appearances in seasons 10, 13, & 14.
One of my ‘secret guilty pleasures’ that to some people isn’t that secret is the Spice Girls. As a guy, I know it’s not exactly the ‘coolest’ thing to like, but I loved them when I was little, thanks to the influence of my sister, and these girls can harmonize like no other.
I try not to regret much, but I regret seeing this concert while in college. I was stage managing a show and couldn’t go. This song, ‘Viva Forever’, is one of my favorites by them, and the end of this video gives me chills. Seeing Geri melt down into the stage and dissapearing from the group to parrallel what happened in the 90’s when she left is really amazing. If you don’t watch the whole video, at least watch the ending.
Here’s the hoping for a reunion for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee or the Olympics this year!
I’m not a girl, so I normally don’t watch these commercials, but I could not stop laughing at this commercial, and watch it every time it’s on T.V. This is good advertisement! Enjoy!
One of my favorite Sondheim songs, “Everyday A Little Death” from ‘A Little Night Music’. Here Maureen Moore plays Charlotte and Beverly Lambert plays Anne in the New York Opera’s Production from 1990. I would love a copy of this production! The women hardly move and yet so much emotion is coming out of them, truly skilled performers. Maureen’s emphasis on “Disgusting” at 1:34 is my favorite moment of the entire clip. Enjoy!
R.I.P. Amy Winehouse. Another member in the very talented (and sad) club 27. I love her voice so much, when I heard she died I was extremely sad. I’ve been a fan of hers since early summer of 2007 when I was studying abroad in England, and this song has always been my favorite or hers, of course I love Back to Black & Rehab, but this song, off her first album ‘Frank’ is my favorite. I never knew she made a music video too it. She looks so in control of her life here, healthy and even younger, another amazing talent gone way to early. :(
One of the best scenes of one of the greatest television shows of all time. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is truly one of the greatest television shows in my opinions. It is quality television with its amazing ensemble cast, uses of memory throughout the series, and its reflection on every day life through plot and dialogue. This is scene comes from season 7 episode 1 ‘Lessons’. If you haven’t seen this amazing series for some reason stop reading now so you don’t spoil yourself. The First Evil, first introduced in Season 3’s episode Amends comes back as all the Big Bads from each season to torment Spike and set up the final season of the show. This is a scene that gives me goose bumps every time I watch, and gets me excited to watch the rest of the season. Joss Whedon is amazing.
When I was growing up in the 90’s cartoon network did amazing commercials to promote itself on the station, and this one was a survivor parody. Only 4 of the many episodes are on youtube, but this one is hilarious as is the last one. Cartoon Network needs to go back to its roots, when it was good….like the 90’s with Dexter, Cow & Chicken, Johnny Bravo, etc.
FYI: youtube makes you watch the video on its site, sorry, can’t find these anywhere else!
SNL’s biggest mistake of late, letting Jenny Slate go. She was one of the best parts of ‘09-‘10 season, and they chose to not renew her contract. This was my favorite sketch of that year. Her screen presence was strong, and she was always able to hold her own in each sketch. Here’s to Jenny Slate, one of the best parts of SNL season 35!
